The Highgate Festival returns for 2023 with nine days of events in the area's churches, streets and venues.

Organisers are calling for sponsors and talent to boost the not-for-profit community event, which runs from June 10-18.

Street parties, competitions, heritage walks, theatre, family shows, music, open gardens, workshops and exhibitions are planned by a team of dedicated volunteers.

New for this year is Films of Highgate, organised by local history buff and TV and Radio producer Peter Walton.Ham & High: History buff and festival organiser Peter Walton is running a Films of Highgate eventHistory buff and festival organiser Peter Walton is running a Films of Highgate event (Image: Pictures by Kathleen Molnar/Wood that Works/ Honey Hanit)

"This includes a major, feature length documentary on the history of Highgate from the middle ages, made by the Hornsey Historical Society with commentaries by local stars, Juliet Stevenson, Bill Paterson, and Tim Piggot-Smith," he said.

Regular features include the Fair in the Square on June 10, a village fete of music, stalls and entertainment such as sheep shearing and circus skills, which draws around 10,000 visitors to Pond Square.

"The events are scattered around the vibrant community that is Highgate in places and spaces - some very unique - in and outdoors," said team member Kathleen Molnár.

"Emerging and established artists will be showcased over the whopping nine days of the festival. Our aim as ever is to engage with the community, boost Highgate’s economy, and support local artists and performers as well as all the cafes, pubs, places of worship, schools and cultural venues."

Now in its six year, many events are free with others modestly priced. Concerts by talented local performers are an annual feature and organisers are calling for anyone who wants to take part to contact info@highgatefestival.org before April 28.

Other volunteers are needed including those with photography, social media or design experience, and businesses or organisations who can join festival sponsors Channing School, Highgate School and the London Borough of Camden in making this year's event the best yet should get  in touch with Kathleen Molnar at molnarkmt@gmail.com
