Bus services that usually stop in Parliament Hill will be temporarily paused throughout most of January.

Camden Council is undertaking works to improve pedestrian accessibility and safety by the parade of shops and cafes at the bottom of Swain's Lane.

Some of the pavements around the roundabout are being widened and two new raised zebra crossings are being built to help people navigate the area safely when walking or using a wheelchair.

A council spokesperson said Swain’s Lane, by the roundabout, is closed to traffic until January 24.

The 88 bus from Clapham Junction will stop at Camden Town.

The C11 bus will take a detour from Archway, down to Tufnell Park and across Chetwynd Road to Gordon House Road.

The 214 heading towards Highgate will not stop at Parliament Hill but will on its descent towards Moorgate.

Traffic access from Highgate Road to Swains Lane and vice versa can be taken via St Albans Road.

Work on the new scheme, which includes Highgate Road and Highgate West Hill, is scheduled to last until March 8.

The spokesperson added: "Apart from a planned closure of Highgate West Hill for one day in March, no further closure is planned."
