There were six fire engines and 40 firefighters at the scene after being called at 2.57pm.
Crews from Paddington, North Kensington, West Hampstead and surrounding stations attended.
It was under control by 4.01pm and no injuries were reported.
Heavy traffic was reported in the area, and despite it being generally busy - it contributed to cars queuing near Swiss Cottage and just past Finchley Road station.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
