Crowds tramped through snow and ice to enjoy Highgate's annual outdoor carol service.

Pond Square was filled with the sound of Christmas favourites on Tuesday evening (December 13).

Highgate School Symphonic Band and Concert Choir set the scene with O Come, All Ye Faithful followed by other classics including Silent Night and Hark, the Herald Angels Sing.

Organised by the Highgate Society for more than 40 years, the carols are an annual charitable fixture.

Ham & High:

Dan Hall was back as MC and "brilliant at encouraging the crowd to join in".

Catharine Wells, from Highgate Society, said the "atmosphere was wonderful".

"The buckets were jingling with coins and lots of people were sliding in £10 pound notes to support The Harington Scheme," she said.

"The musicians were all heroes as they played for us at zero temperatures."

Attendees were invited to enjoyed mulled wine and mince pies distributed by society volunteers.

Highgate has pulled out the stops this Christmas.

Harry Potter star Rupert Grint switched on the Highgate lights on November 23 at an event hosted by presenter and DJ Alex Zane.

Chris Underhill of Prickett & Ellis distributed more than 200 wands to children for the occasion.
