Snow fell overnight in north London with the city waking up on Monday to a blanket of white.

Commuters faced travel in the morning as large parts of the UK were hit by ice, fog and snow.

The Met Office issued yellow severe weather alerts due to the wintry conditions.

It was the coldest night of the year so far, with temperatures in northern Scotland dipping below minus 15C.

There were severe delays to London Underground trains, with all but one line affected.

Cllr Nancy Jirara (LD Fortune Green) tweeted picture from @jillybean2009 saying "with compliments".

She added: "It was a matter of time!! On Fortune Green with heaps of snow - a snowman was built. Lovely."

King's Cross councillor Jonathan Simpson posted a picture of Camden Road at night.

He said: "Great work by our gritting team overnight. Please be careful out there if you are out and about."

Street sweepers are clearing snow and then putting grit down.

Camden Council said it has been gritting main roads, bus routes and areas around transport hubs, hospitals and emergency services, and that it will again during the day.
