A schizophrenic who killed a musician on a Tube train 17 years ago is to be transferred to a medium secure hospital.

Christopher Clunis was detained indefinitely after fatally stabbing Jonathan Zito, who lived in Crouch End, through the eye at Finsbury Park.

Mr Zito had been married for just three months when Clunis stabbed him three times in the face in 1992.

The Ministry of Justice said Clunis would be moved from Rampton top-security hospital in Nottingham.

A Ministry of Justice spokeswoman said: "This move does not mean the patient will be released into the community. The agreement to move to an alternate secure unit is only given after thorough risk assessment, and subject to comprehensive safeguards."

An independent inquiry found that vital information about Christopher Clunis, who was out of hospital under the care in the community programme, had not been shared.

Mr Zito's wife Jayne formed the Zito Trust after his death to raise awareness about the problems surrounding community care for people with severe mental illness.
