Ashmount Primary School last night won permission to relocate to Crouch Hill.
Islington Council delivered the verdict after a three-hour debate at a meeting at Islington Town Hall.
It means the school will move from its current site in Ashmount Road to Metropolitan Open Land.
David Barry, chairman of the governors at Ashmount welcomed the decision. He said: "I'm very pleased indeed. It has taken us a long time to get here. We've been working on this project for years and we looked at all the options. This was the best one."
The Mayor of London Boris Johnson now has 14 days to approve or overrule Islington's decision.
