Projects Abroad have seen a 35% increase in the numbers of young people that are taking their parents away with them on gap years. Rather than a gap year being a bastion of independence, this year one in four gappers have taken a parent or both of their parents abroad with them to the likes of Ghana, Peru, China and Brazil. Around 250,000 students take gap years each year. Projects Abroad are the world's largest commercial volunteer organization.
