Tributes have been paid by staff at St Mary's Hospital to a British surgeon killed in Afghanistan.
Dr Karen Woo was one of the 10 medics shot dead by the Taliban during an aid mission in a remote part of the war-torn country last Friday.
The 36-year-old worked as a senior house officer and a specialist registrar and senior house officer at St Mary's and Charing Cross Hospitals between February 2006 and September 2008.
She is also believed to have had links to the Frontline Club, a favoured haunt for foreign journalists in Paddington, where she completed a camera course before leaving for Afghanistan.
A spokeswoman for Imperial Healthcare NHS Trust, which oversees St Mary's, said: "We are very sorry to hear of the death of Karen Woo. We can confirm that Karen worked as a senior house officer and specialist registrar on different occasions at both Charing Cross and St Mary's hospitals between February 2006 and September 2008."
Former colleagues also revealed their sadness on the charity forum Bridge Afghanistan. A medic, writing anonymously, said: "I worked with Karen at St Mary's Paddington. Karen sacrificed her life helping the disadvantaged. God will be waiting for you in heaven brave angel, your legacy will last forever. My thoughts to your parents who have lost their only child. RIP.
