The last hopes of a hot June were blown away as gale force winds tore through north London last night (Thursday, June 7) uprooting a tree in Primrose Hill.
The London plain tree was torn from its roots and fell across Gloucester Avenue at around 8am this morning (Friday 8).
Traffic was diverted to avoid it.
Albert Carlson, 77, who works yards from the felled tree at the Primrose Hill Business Centre, said: “I was surprised, I’ve never seen a tree fall like that in Gloucester Avenue.
“It is just fortunate no one got injured.
“With this changeable weather you don’t know what’s going to happen from one day to another. It is not what you would expect in the summer.”
The Met Office yesterday (Thursday, June 7) issued a weather warning telling residents that gales sweeping over London could damage trees, disrupt traffic and scupper outdoor activities.
Apart from glimmers of sunshine tomorrow (Saturday, June 9), forecasters predict the bad weather is set to continue for the next week.
