Conservationists have won their battle with BT to pull down an equipment box which was dumped in the heart of Hampstead without planning permission.
Enforcement officers from Camden Council have issued the telecoms company with orders to demolish the 5ft green box in Hampstead High Street following an investigation.
Farokh Khorooshi, founding member of the Hampstead 2020 vision, which removes “unnecessary” street furniture from the village, branded the box a “monstrosity” and piled pressure on the council to pull it down.
Hampstead Town Cllr Chris Knight said; “Hopefully this will send a message that just plonking street clutter in a conservation area will not be tolerated.”
The box outside NatWest bank, which is yet to be pulled down, was built for super fast internet connection in the area.
