Youngsters learned some new dance moves and created artwork from African flags last week to help bring Black History Month celebrations to a close.
More than 500 people attended a series of workshops for adults and children held at The Beethoven Centre in Queen’s Park last week.
Last Wednesday, children learned Capoeira, a Brazilian martial art based on music developed by the descendants of African slaves, and made a collage with 52 flags of African states.
The week also saw a performance from local X-Factor star Leah Lauder, who competed in the television show as part of girl group Hope in 2007.
Organiser and centre manager Bassam Masood said: “It was a fantastic five days full of fun, culture and history.
“So much history has come from black culture; we’re always talking about European history, but we often forget about Africa, which is really the history of everyone.”
