The Mayor of Camden, Cllr Heather Johnson, has opened a new exhibition of 16 unique celebrity portraits at Swiss Cottage Library.
The mayor was joined by Larissa Joy, of the House of Illustration, at the opening of What Are They Like? on Thursday, April 4.
The exhibition shows copies of 16 celebrity portraits by professional illustrators, including Quentin Blake’s sketch of comedian David Walliams, Michael Foreman’s picture of Monty Python Terry Jones, and Graham Rawle’s portrait of David Baddiel.
The unconventional portraits feature objects that each celebrity has identified as being important to then, in a method based on a popular Victorian parlour game.
The original artworks were sold in December last year at auction house Sotheby’s and all the artists are from the House of Illustration.
The free exhibition is on display at Swiss Cottage Library, in Avenue Road, until May 25, when it will go on a UK tour.
