Town hall bosses have threatened to launch a legal challenge against London Mayor Boris Johnson’s attempts to force through fire brigade cut-backs which could see Belsize fire station closed in a matter of weeks.
Camden Council may join forces with other boroughs including Islington, Hackney and Westminster to push for a judicial review to save the station, in Lancaster Grove, and nine others.
The legal threat comes after Mr Johnson ordered the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority (LFEPA) to accept the cuts, which would also see 14 engines and 552 firefighters axed.
The Mayor of London has said he wants the changes implemented by September 16, meaning Belsize fire station could be closed in just over a month’s time.
The cutbacks, part of a £28.8million savings drive, have also been vigorously opposed by the Fire Brigades Union.
