Primary school children helped a community group plant seeds in Highgate on a national day of gardening.
Pupils from Brookfield Primary School in Chester Road were hard at work with their trowels preparing gardening plots in Waterlow Park for seed planting on Saturday morning.
They joined hundreds of gardeners up and down the country for Big Dig Day, a national celebration where communities plant seeds in urban food growing spaces on the same day.
Transition Dartmouth Park, which organised Highgate’s Big Dig, then hosted its third annual Seedy Saturday in the afternoon, where families swapped seeds and plants at Highgate Library Civic and Cultural Centre, in Chester Road.
Expert gardener Anita Gracie hosted a question-and-answer session and Les Coupland, founder of the Green Peppers Orchard and Forest Garden, in Maiden Lane, Camden Town, gave a talk to encourage people to eat locally.
Children also had the chance to plant wildflowers in Three Point Park in Raydon Street.
