The return of Primrose Hill Film Club, a new exhibition by the Hampstead Photographic Society and the start of Camden Lock’s summer night markets are just some of the things featured in our top five this week.

1. Thursday - Night Market

Camden Lock’s summer night markets return to the borough with a number of events running every Thursday until September 4.

The market will be packed with a range of different cultural performances, food stalls from around the world and summer cocktail drinks.

Backyard Cinema will be showing an array of outdoor films - complete with sofas for couples to relax and unwind – while DJs and live music will also be entertaining visitors as they drink and dine.

Films include classics like Pulp Fiction, The Goonies, and Spinal Tap.

Camden Lock’s good friends Pongathon, the group running mass Ping Pong parties, also return for their second year of Night Markets

The Regent’s Canal and Lock itself will provide “the perfect backdrop for these sumptuous and sultry Summer nights”.

The nights run from 6pm to 10pm.

Visit camdenlockmarket.com for a full programme of events.

2. Tuesday - Film Club

Primrose Hill Film Club returns for a screening of French classic La Grande Illusion (1937).

Directed by Jean Renoir and starring Jean Gabin, Pierre Fresnay and Erich von Stroheim, this war film is regarded as among the greatest ever made.

Held at Primrose Hill Community Library in Sharpleshall Street.

Doors open 7.30pm for a 7.45pm start. Tickets £8, available at the library.

3. Wednesday - Hampstead Photographic Society

New work from the Hampstead Photographic Society will be on display in this exhibition at Burgh House in New End Square, Hampstead. Called Never Seeing Nothing, it sees some of the society’s internationally renowned photographers display more than 50 of their latest creative works.

Runs until August 31. Visit burghhouse.org.uk for more information.

4. Sunday - Beach Dancing

The JW3 in Finchley Road turns its new sandy beach into a dance floor this weekend, inviting residents to “grab a partner and get moving with scintillating swing, lively Lindy Hop and scorching jive”.

Led by dance instructor and UK/US dance champion Simon Selmon, there will be a mix of music from the twenties to the twist.

Two sessions will take place at 3pm and 4pm.

This is a free event but capacity is limited.

Phone 020 7433 8988 to book a place.

5. Saturday - War Poetry

An afternoon of war poems at Keats House in Keats Grove, Hampstead.

The readings will explore the devastating repercussions of war for those who remain at home and those who look back on wars in later years.

Some of the most powerful war poetry, the organisers say, has been written by poets not involved in combat and, in particular, women who have had to face the loss of loved ones throughout the centuries.

Runs from 3pm to 4pm.

Free with an admission ticket to the House. No booking required.
