“Before you abuse, criticise and accuse,” so goes the Joe Smith song, “Better walk a mile in my shoes”.
Celebrities are no strangers to being insulted and accused, and so a number of high profile stars have taken the 1970 song to heart by giving their fans the chance to spend the rest of their lives walking in their shoes, quite literally.
A small charity in Highgate is set to host the largest auction of celebrity footwear in the world next month, featuring signed pairs from Kate Moss, George Clooney, Andy Murray and over 100 other A-list film, sport and music stars.
This week, Heathman was given exclusive access to Ricky Gervais’s running shoes, Simon Pegg’s skaters, and the elegant loafers worn by Terry Jones while performing Monty Python’s sell-out show at the O2 Arena.
They were just some of the local talents’ footwear to feature in the Small Steps 2014 auction.
The charity, based in Waterlow Road, is in its fifth year of the Celebrity Shoes project, with last year’s auction raising £53,000.
The money is used to help children throughout the world living on rubbish dumps by delivering shoes, hygiene kits and emergency aid. The online auction will take place throughout November, launched with a public exhibition of the shoes on November 1 at 19 Greek Street in Soho.
