Children at a West Hampstead primary school have celebrated World Porridge Day by tucking into big bowls of one of Britain’s best-loved breakfast dishes.
Pupils at St Eugene de Mazenod Catholic Primary School, Mazenod Avenue, where about 69 per cent of children are entitled to free school meals, could try porridge with a number of different, healthy toppings to mark the day.
They were all members of the school’s breakfast club run by charity Magic Breakfast, which provides free, nutritious breakfasts to more than 8,500 primary school children throughout England.
Associate headteacher Greg Donohue said: “When we rolled it out, they said ‘I don’t like porridge’ but we got a few guinea pigs to try it and all of a sudden every single child had porridge and loved it!”
