It was a dog’s life on Hampstead Heath over the sunny bank holiday weekend.
Owners brought along their canine pets to take part in the second Great Hampstead Bark Off, a combined dog and cake show on Parliament Hill on Sunday.
With tails wagging the pooches competed before celebrity judges including actor Peter Egan, actress Michelle Collins, TV vet Mark Abrahams and TV’s Countdown mathematician Rachel Riley.
Organised by rescue charity All Dogs Matter, the pets battled to be named Mr and Miss Heath, golden oldie, cutest pup and best rescue dog, while owners entered their canine-themed cakes, biscuits and doggy treats in the best designed cake and best doggy delight competition.
Winners received a hamper of Lily’s Kitchen dog foods and the cakes were sold off in an auction.
There was also a parade of dogs looking for new homes plus stalls, a tombola and raffle, all compered by Philip Lassman.
The event raised more than £1,000 for All Dogs Matter, a charity in north London that rehomes abandoned and stray dogs. It has found new homes for 380 dogs in the past year alone.
