The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have congratulated a Highgate schoolboy who won a Bafta award for designing a computer game.
Jack Reynolds, 16, met the royal couple at Abertay University in Scotland on Friday as he saw his game Ouroboros in the first stage of production.
Prince William praised the design of the game in which players have to ‘die’ and then respawn in order to progress after playing it during the visit.
Jack, of Cromwell Avenue, said: “The Duke said the game was really imaginative and unique, which is great as that was what I was going for.
“It feels awesome. I get the feeling he is not the kind of guy who regularly plays games so I’m one of the few people whose games he has played.”
He added: “It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I was in shock for a lot of it.”
Jack said Prince William clocked up a higher score on the game than when he tried it out for himself for the first time.
The Scotland visit was part of Jack’s Bafta prize for winning a Young Game Designer award in July. He has also won copies of every game released by Warner Bros studio, the opportunity to pitch his game to multinational media organisation Sony and a tour of film studios Shepperton Studios in Surrey.
Their Royal Highnesses made the trip to meet young people like Jack who have benefited from Bafta’s Young Game Designer competition, which aims to encourage youngsters to consider careers in game creation.
