Midfielder Josie Green was pleased to get 90 minutes under her belt ahead of Spurs Ladies’ first cup final tomorrow (Thursday) – and she hopes her experience of playing at a higher level will help her new team to win silverware.

Green joined Tottenham from Women’s Super League Division Two outfit Watford in February but broke her nose shortly after the move and missed the whole of March.

She returned as a substitute in last weekend’s defeat to Cardiff and then completed 90 minutes on Sunday as Karen Hills’ side lost 2-1 at home against Brighton, who secured the title in the south division of the Women’s Premier League.

Spurs return to their Cheshunt base tomorrow evening for their Ryman Cup final against Charlton – who sit four places and 12 points ahead of them in the table - and Green is raring to go.

“It feels great to get back into it,” she said. “We’ve got three important cup finals coming up and just to be able to get back in the team, to get 90 minutes and be back in with all the girls, it’s really exciting and I can’t wait for the next couple of weeks.

“It’s going to be a tough game. Personally it’s going to be my first involvement playing against Charlton. From what I’ve heard it’s going to be very competitive, but I think after this performance - knowing that we can take it to Brighton, who are the league champions – we know we can take it to anyone. That’s what we’re going to show.

“Hopefully I can bring some experience. To be playing at a high level, hopefully I can bring that intensity and that communication and feed it through the team. I’m hoping to do that here at Spurs, and I’m excited for the next couple of weeks as well.”

Amy Taylor gave Brighton the lead just before half-time on Sunday and, although Bianca Baptiste levelled within moments of coming on as a 69th-minute substitute, parity did not last long as Taylor struck the winner 13 minutes from time and secured the league trophy for her side.

“We gave them a good game, especially in the second half,” said Green. “We pressed them, got the goal back to make it 1-1 and I think it was just unlucky. We had so many chances in the second half and on another day it could have been a much different story.

“They played well – credit to Brighton, they kept going and managed to nick a goal to make it 2-1. We took it to the very end and we’re proud of our performance, especially in the second half.

“We’ve had quite a few players coming in and playing in positions that they don’t usually play in, and credit to them, they’ve done an excellent job - Shakira [Waithe] at left-back came in and did absolutely brilliantly on the left-hand side.

“Credit to the back four and to the team. It shows what depth we’ve got, that players can just come in and play and give the champions a good game.”
