Tottenham Ladies 2 Cardiff City 1

Wendy Martin’s spectacular strike six minutes into injury time ensured a dramatic come-from-behind win over Tottenham Ladies against Cardiff City at Theobalds Lane and set up a potential FA Women’s Premier League title sealer with West Ham United at White Hart Lane on Wednesday.

Josie Green set the pace early on, prodding a splitting pass through to Sophie Mclean bursting forward, who found Laura O’Sullivan quick off her line to gather. But the visitors found the breakthrough as Cori Williams broke to the edge of the area and powered a shot inside the near post within six minutes.

Spurs looked to reply as Lucia Leon shimmied forward and Gemma Evans half-cleared her cross for Mclean to latch on and shoot from distance, only for O’Sullivan to collect down low.

Kelley Blanchflower then broke to the byline and found Mclean, who saw her shot hooked clear by Maisie Jerrim.

Blanchflower then manoeuvred to the left and cut inside, floating a deep cross to Bianca Baptiste who crashed a shot off the post.

The hosts kept the pressure on as Leon played in Martin, whose strike on the turn deflected off Ellis Hillman and hit the top of the crossbar.

Hannah Miles exchanged with Laura Williams who cut in from the right, before swerving her strike into the side-netting.

And Baptiste crossed towards Blanchflower just inside the area, who laid the ball off to Riana Soobadoo to fire goalwards only for Gemma Evans to head clear.

Baptiste’s corner was headed up by Martin and Jenna Schillaci followed up with a header of her own which was guided against the post.

But then Cardiff’s Laura Williams took aim from near 25 yards which zipped off the surface and into the arms of Toni-Anne Wayne, who also held on to a dipping effort from Chloe Chivers.

Green and Leon combined to set up Mclean, but Jerrim held firm at the back for the visitors, who came out flying in the second half as Williams countered and slipped in Chivers, only for Wayne to collect.

Spurs saw Green send a dipping effort off the top of the crossbar, before Chloe Lloyd sent Chivers clear and Wayne tipped her effort against the woodwork.

It was a let-off for the hosts and Leon, Soobadoo and Martin combined on the right, with the latter teeing up Blanchflower who rolled the ball to Leah Rawle, but her curler dipped inches wide.

Baptiste’s cross then found Martin to guide towards Soobadoo, whose volley was collected by O’Sullivan, before Maya Vio played Leon through and her cross found Nikita Whinnett, whose effort was deflected wide by Lloyd.

Tottenham’s equaliser arrived on 84 minutes, though, when Baptiste crossed to Leon who set up Whinnett to stroke home inside the near post with great technique.

And they went close to a second when Wayne’s clearance found Martin, who flicked on to Whinnett, but her effort lacked power.

The match looked set to end all square, but Spurs kept pressing and got their reward with the last kick as Martin collected Baptiste’s cross out wide and placed a curling effort into the far corner for a stunning winner.
