Members of the public were searched for weapons and thrown into custody cells during a police open day.
Families joined the Mayor of Haringey, Cllr Stephen Mann, and police boss Helen Millichap at the open day at Hornsey police station – slated for closure under a current Mayor of London consultation – on Saturday.
Usually upstanding members of the community took turns in the cells, before carrying out mock booking procedures and watching police cadets perform practice searches.
Firearms and marine unit members – along with their boats – were also on hand to discuss their work with police cars on display for the fascinated visitors to sit in.
Chief supt Helen Millichap said: “It was a fantastic day. I would like to thank those who came.”
Organiser PC Chris Allen said: “This mysterious world of policing is vast and varied so we threw open our doors for everyone to see what we are all about. There were a lot of smiles throughout.”
