The Tykes will make trip down to London on Tuesday and the fixture will see two full-backs take on their former side

Barnsley will make the trip to Wembley Stadium next Tuesday (September 19) to take on Tottenham Hotspur in the third round of the English Football League Cup after edging out Derby County in a five-goal thriller last night.

The Tykes fell behind after only six minutes at Oakwell when Johnny Russell put the visitors in front during the second round tie.

Adam Jackson equalised for Paul Heckingbottom’s team 12 minutes later, though, and it seemed like staying level until the break.

That was until Mason Bennett popped up six minutes before half time to fire Derby back into the lead.

It appeared it would be Gary Rowlett’s team making the trip to the national stadium, as they held onto their advantage for much of the second period.

But Tom Bradshaw produced an equaliser in the 73rd minute and then Adam Hammill sent the south Yorkshire faithful into raptures with a winner two minutes from time.

Barnsley will therefore be the visitors to Wembley next Tuesday and it means Zeki Fryers is set to face his old club.

The former Manchester United full-back spent one season with Spurs before exiting in the summer of 2014.

Meanwhile Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier has enjoyed two loan spell with the Tykes in the past.

He first moved to Barnsley towards the end of the 2009/10 season before rejoining the Yorkshire club for the following campaign.

The match will kick-off at 8pm and Spurs will be confident of progressing against a side they have not faced since an FA Cup clash on March 16 1999, which Tottenham won 1-0.
