Camden Council has reassured residents after hackers targeted software in a global attack.
Hackers hijacked websites across the world forcing computers to run software that creates cryptocurrency.
The council uses the Browsealoud accessiblility tool – which enables blind and partially sighted people to access information on its website – targeted by cyber criminals in Sunday’s attack.
The software was taken offline as soon as the company learnt of the scam.
A Camden spokesman said: “This was an issue within the Browsealoud software rather than a hack on the council website.
“No customer data has been accessed or lost and the website continues to be secure,” he added.
The council confirmed it would remove links to Browsealoud from its site.
Blind or partially sighted residents who need to access services or find information should call 0207 974 4444.
Texthelp, which produces the software, is investigating.
