Camden charity The Kids Network has bagged the support of much-loved children’s illustrator Quentin Blake.
The charity, founded two years ago, pairs underprivileged children with professionals as mentees who spend time with them and act as role models.
Mr Blake, who attained national treasure status for his work accompanying Roald Dahl’s children’s books, has become a patron of the charity, and helped to fund an expansion of the mentorship programme.
The Kids Network’s founder, Kentish Town women Sarah Woodcock, said: “I wrote him a letter asking for support and he replied offering to help.
“What we want to do is build a sense of community, and help young people reach their potential.”
Sarah added that the charity continue to look for professionals in the area who would be willing to volunteer to work with vulnerable children.
Quentin Blake said: ““We all want to help open children’s minds to the possibilities of life, both practical and imaginative.”
