The painter behind the murals outside the Royal Free Hospital’s Pears Building said he is “loves” that his work has found a new audience.

Oliver Yu Chan, who has autism, has been paining for twenty years. Living in Swiss Cottage, his paintings of Hampstead High Street, Kentish Town Underground Station and Belsize Park’s Budgens supermarket in the snow now adorn the building site’s hoardings.

His work is usually on display in Oliver’s Village Cafe in Belsize Lane, which his family own. Now the 31-year-old’s work is currently being seen by thousands of people a day driving up Rosslyn Hill.

“My mom got me into it when I was a child, and I’ve taken it from there really.”

His name was put forward by Belsize activist, Linda Grove, before a Royal Free Trust staff member got in touch.

“I was nervous, when they got in touch,” he said. “I get a bit nervous looking at it but I do love it and feel positive from it. I feel proud,” he added.
