Spurs legend Gary Mabbutt, himself a Wembley winner, says it will be a fitting tribute if Robbie Keane gets the chance to lead Spurs out in Sunday's Carling Cup final at Wembley.
Writing in this week's Ham&High Cup Final souvenir supplement, he says: ''While we all hope that it will be Ledley King who leads us out at Wembley - a fully-fit skipper makes a big difference - it would be entirely fitting if it was Robbie Keane.
''All through the good and the bad times this season the Irishman has been at the forefront with his leadership skills and, of course, his goals.
''I've sung Robbie's praises all season and continue to be greatly impressed with his attitude on and off the field.
Wembley has a special atmosphere and I'm sure it will be a wonderful occasion for all the players.
''I was fortunate enough to lift the FA Cup at Wembley for Spurs in 1991 and it is a very special feeling. Now, nine years on, I'm expecting another Lilywhites skipper - be it Ledley or Robbie - to pick up the trophy again.
''Any player will tell you that nothing beats that feeling of walking up those Wembley steps as captain to collect the trophy.''
