ON behalf of council leader Cllr Keith Moffitt and myself, can I thank all those involved in responding to the Camden fire. As far as I could tell as a layman, the fire service did an incredible job of containing such an intense blaze in a relatively confined area, ably supported by the police.
Council staff came into action effectively and imaginatively in line with our emergency planning procedures, helping residents, opening up the Talacre Centre immediately as emergency accommodation, and now working with businesses to help get things moving again. Thanks also to the Red Cross and all other volunteers involved.
A great deal of hard work is now being put in by many public servants, and of course we all understand how worried affected businesses and residents naturally are. There will be ups and downs over the next few days, but let's all keep a sense of proportion and pull together as much as we can, getting out the message that Camden's markets are open for business.
Cllr Andrew Marshall
Deputy Leader, Camden Council
