CLLR Theo Blackwell suggests in the Ham&High that residents should be able to spend money raised from parking penalties.
I must respond to clearly explain to residents where this money goes and the benefits it brings across the borough.
Camden residents have told us time and again that parking is one of their top priorities and all money raised from parking goes straight back into improving our services in that area.
Every penny is spent on transportation and highways in Camden, such as on maintaining parking facilities, public transport and on highway improvement schemes.
This is to ensure our roads - which are shared by thousands of motorists, pedestrians, emergency services and cyclists daily - are safe and run smoothly.
The council has also traditionally spent much of its parking revenue on helping our most vulnerable residents such as older and disabled people travel around the borough, for example through the freedom pass scheme that gives them free public transport or the disabled persons' blue badge scheme.
Our parking regulations are designed to be fair and make life easier for everyone, and I can reassure residents that parking income is being put to very good use across the whole borough.

Executive Member for Environment
Camden Council
