POLICE are appealing for information after a man was beaten and left unconscious by a violent gang in Muswell Hill.

A 36-year-old man was punched and kicked by a group of up to four men in Dukes Avenue, near the junction with Muswell Hill, in the early hours of Tuesday last week.

Police officers found the man lying unconscious in the street at 2.30am covered in bruises and with a swollen face.

Police believe that a woman in her 20s tried to pull the attackers off before running away with them.

A spokeswoman from the London Ambulance Service said: "We were called shortly after 2.30am on Tuesday to reports of an assault. Our staff treated the man, who was taken to hospital in a serious condition."

The victim has now been discharged. DC Paul Coyle, of Haringey CID, said: "We would like to hear from anyone that may have information that could assist our investigation and we are particularly keen to hear from the woman that we understand was seen trying to pull the suspects off the victim."

Anyone with information is asked to contact DC Coyle on 020-8345 0712 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111
