The Spurs boss is hopeful Dele Alli’s groin injury isn’t a big issue, but remains in the dark about Harry Kane’s ankle problem

Mauricio Pochettino labelled Tottenham Hotspur’s 4-1 victory at AFC Bournemouth as a ‘massive three points’ in their quest to finish inside the Premier League top-four.

After exiting the Champions League during the week following a 4-3 aggregate loss to Juventus in the last 16 of the competition, Spurs needed to show some mettle at Dean Court on Sunday.

Initially it seemed like they might suffer a disastrous week with Junior Stanislas firing the Cherries ahead with seven minutes played.

Harry Kane was forced off with an ankle injury just past the hour mark with the score still 1-0, but the Lilywhites then moved through the gears.

Dele Alli equalised to ensure it was level at half time and a brace from Heung-min Son plus a late Serge Aurier header handed the visitors a crucial win, which saw them move above Liverpool into third.

“I’m so pleased. After Wednesday, I think the reaction was important for the team,” said Pochettino.

“After we conceded the goal, the team reacted and we started to play. It’s a massive three points for us.”

Spurs had two injury concerns immediately after the impressive win with the fitness of Kane taking the headlines.

With England due to face the Netherlands and Italy later this month, national team boss Gareth Southgate will be sweating on the prognosis of the forwards problem.

It appears Tottenham will at least be without their talisman for Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final at Swansea City, but Pochettino was reluctant to say too much about the injury following Sunday’s win.

He added: “We need to wait because we need to make a scan of his ankle. Of course he suffered an injury that is in the same ankle that he suffered before.

“But we hope that it’s not a massive issue. He felt that when he ran and twisted his ankle that it was impossible to stay on the pitch.

“Harry has a great character and is always positive, happy with the victory for the team, of course disappointed with his problem, but if you’re positive you start the recovery from injury from now.”

Alli also appeared to be struggling in the latter stages of the game with a groin injury, but Pochettino added: “I don’t believe that it’s a big issue.

“We need to, in the next week, manage him. But I don’t believe it will be a big issue.”
