In pictures: Hackney Carnival 2018 takes the streets by storm

A colourful parade with over 1,000 performers in 28 carnival groups – with dancers travelling from as far afield as Bolivia - weaved its way through the borough’s streets.

Starting out in Queensbridge Road, Haggerston, at 1.30pm, performers went all the way to the Town Hall in Mare Street and back to Dalston Lane.

An all-day carnival extravaganza saw sound systems all around the borough, with Faggamuffin Bloc Party, in Bohemia Place, Hackney Central, as the carnival’s first ever sound system run and curated by queer people of colour.

A live music stage in Gillett Square, Dalston, was headlined by legendary Jamaican reggae star Earl 16, and there were five more sound systems in Ridley Road.
