The multi-million-pound renovation of Hackney Marshes and Mabley Green has finished with the unveiling of the new pavilion and changing rooms.
The North Marsh Pavilion replaces old facilities and will provide 16 new changing rooms, four officials rooms, cricket nets and a social space overlooking the cricket pitch.
To mark the opening, Stoke Newington Cricket Club and the Pedro Youth Football Club trained in front of guests from the town hall, the England and Wales Cricket Board and the Football Foundation, who all helped fund the £17million project.
Hackney’s group director for neighbourhoods Kim Wright said: “The new pavilion, built for the community to use, means that even more people will be able to enjoy the marshes, whether that’s by taking part in sport, watching a cricket match or simply taking a stroll around.”
The restoration work also included new all weather pitches, returning football pitches on East Marsh after the Olympics, developing the Hackney Marshes Centre and installing new cycling and walking routes.
