An LGBT gardening group has been given £12,000 to expand its work providing a welcoming space for members of the community to learn to grow edible plants.
Rainbow Grow won the top prize in Tesco’s Bursting with Pride campaign, which saw the supermarket inviting customers to vote for their favourite community groups to mark Pride celebrations in London. The money was raised by Tesco and environmental charity Groundwork through the Bags of Help scheme, which sees money raised from selling carrier bags supporting community projects.
Co-coordinator Kad Karababa said: “Rainbow Grow is about more than just growing vegetables.
“It’s a sense of community, making positive change by re-greening urban spaces, meeting and making friends with people you may never have met otherwise and having a laugh over tea and cake – there’s always cake.”
The group launched after making a float for the Pride Carnival.
