Emma Mitchell is enjoying a new lease of life at Tottenham after scoring the opening goal on her full debut in a dramatic 2-1 win over London rivals West Ham in the Women’s Super League.

The Arsenal loanee's superb strike into the bottom left-hand corner gave Spurs the advantage after 30 minutes. They then conceded against the run of play in the 89th minute, only to find a dramatic winner in the sixth minute of stoppage time when Rianna Dean headed home at the end of a swift counter-attack.

"Last year was quite a difficult year for me, not getting the game time," said Mitchell.

"For any player you will always have a dip in confidence. It's been nice to come here and get a bit of self-belief back and hopefully that will show in my performances as well.

"They are a really, really nice bunch and it's been such an easy transition. I'm here to help them as much as they can help me."

Juan Amoros, Tottenham's co-head coach alongside Karen Hills, was pleased with Mitchell's performance and the quality she is bringing to the team.

"They are people before players and we always try to make sure that person is right for the environment and make sure she feels comfortable," Amoros said. "It's her first start in a while and it gives her an extra confidence. When you receive the confidence from coaches and team-mates you will feel good."

Amoros was pleased with his side's response after it had looked like they had thrown away three points.

"We're Tottenham Hotspur, we need to go and win games," he added. "At 1-1, the message was 'keep going' because we knew we had the upper hand in terms of creating chances. When the goal went in it was a fantastic feeling, but we definitely wanted to go and get those three points."

West Ham coach Matt Beard saw his side play for the first time in a month after last week's fixture was cancelled because of a flu outbreak in the team.

"There's a lot that has been going on but we can still have more heart, more desire - we didn't show enough of that today," he said. "I said to the girls before the game, whichever team works the hardest and gets on the first balls and the second balls ultimately will be the team that wins it, and I think that's the story of the day."
