Arsenal player ratings: Nketiah shines but Walcott disappoints

Arsenal:

Matt Macey: Couldn’t do much to keep Josh Murphy’s fine chip out. Produced a fine save to deny Nelson Oliveira doubling the visitors’ lead late in the first half. 6

Reiss Nelson: Provided a threat down the right all game long. Needs to be play higher up the pitch by Arsene Wenger though to influence the game more. 7

Mathieu Debuchy: Will be disappointed he didn’t stay close to Murphy’s run which led to the opening goal of the night. 5

Rob Holding: Again, too far apart from Debuchy for the opening goal, allowing James Maddison to thread the ball through with ease for Murphy’s strike. 5

Mohamed Elneny: Stepped way too high up from Debuchy and Holding for the first goal, giving Maddison plenty of space to slice Arsenal’s defence open. Could have been sent off for tripping up Oliviera through on goal, but received only a yellow. 4

Ainsley Maitland-Niles: Like Nelson, imposed himself going forward. His pace and strength caused plenty of problems down the left. Substituted midway through second half. 6

Francis Coquelin: Ineffective throughout the majority of the match and struggled to control in the middle of the park, especially during the opening period. 5

Jack Wilshere: Failed to influence the first half like he did against BATE Borisov and Red Star Belgrade. But got on the ball much more in the second half and stepped his game up before tiring late on. 6

Alex Iwobi: Tried to get on the ball behind the Norwich midfield but lacked that creative spark to really carve open the Norwich defence early on. Grow into the game more when the game went on. 5

Theo Walcott: The difference against Doncaster but didn’t get into the game at all tonight. Not doing much to earn a place in Arsenal’s Premier League line-up at the moment. 5

Olivier Giroud: Failed to find any real inspiration following his goalscoring heroics against Red Star Belgrade. Like Walcott, another experienced head didn’t step up to the plate. Luckily a youngster was at the rescue. 5

Subs:

Chuba Akpom: Came on for Maitland-Niles midway through second and missed the chance to win it right at the death for Arsenal after seeing his left-footed effort drift wide of the post. 7

Eddie Nketiah: Scored the equaliser for Arsenal with his first touch of the game and then scored the winner. What a moment for the youngster, one he will never forget. 9.5
