Arsenal midfielder Jordan Nobbs was delighted to see her side come away with a 2-0 win at Everton in their latest WSL outing.

A goal in each half from Vivianne Miedema and Beth Mead at the Select Security Stadium secured a first away win of the campaign for last season’s runners-up.

And England international Nobbs felt it was a vital three points for her side, saying: “Defensively it was a huge performance. If we can away with a 2-1 win or something like that it just knocks that confidence, so for us to get a clean sheet is a real positive.”

The hosts began well in front of a crowd of 435, with Sari van Veenendaal forced into early action, before Miedema received the ball in the box and held off two defenders before firing in off the crossbar on 23 minutes.

Lizzie Durack made an acrobatic save from a Nobbs free-kick before half time and alsso denied Miedema, while van Veenendaal thwarted Claudia Walker.

Durack made a brilliant save from Miedema after 48 minutes, while Jemma Rose and Leah Williamson held firm in the Arsenal defence.

And Arsenal sealed the points when Mead’s volley was fumbled over the line by the unfortunate Durack with 14 minutes left on the clock.

Nobbs added: “Everton came out positively at the start of the second half but I still think we were quite dominant on the ball.

“As we tired in the second half they had some chances and we knew they would be very good on the counter attack.

“We had to be aware of their threat in the second half but it is good that we have come out with a clean sheet and positive win.”

After playing Millwall Lionesses in the Continental Tyres Cup on Wednesday, Arsenal are set to return to Meadow Park to host Reading in the same competition on Sunday (2pm).

They began their quest with a 7-0 win over London Bees last month, with two goals apiece from Mead and Emma Mitchell.

Lisa Evans, Jodie Taylor and Louise Quinn were also on target in the rout.
