The talented midfielder capped by 34 times by England, but curiously omitted from Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad, is in the final months of his contract with Arsene Wenger’s team.

Wilshere attended the premier joining a large number of the 1989 side including former manager George Graham, his captain Tony Adams, Lee Dixon, Alan Smith, and Wenger’s assistant Steve Bould among many others.

The film details the events of the momentous 1988-89 season which culminated in Arsenal winning the league title against all-the-odds in a memorable climax now embedded in the club’s folklore.

A fit and in form Wilshere – who has earned plaudits at the quality of his performances this season – jumped at the chance to learn more about the famous side and soak up their success.

He added: “Stuart [MacFarlane] the photographer mentioned it to me and gave me the invitation and it was 100 per cent that I was coming.

“I wasn’t born until 1992 – but I’ve grown up at Arsenal and we’re told about the 89 side.

“We’ve still got people at the club who were around then and it’s a massive moment in the history of Arsenal.”

89 tells the incredible story of one of football’s greatest triumphs when Arsenal snatched the Championship title from Liverpool at Anfield in the last minute of the last game of the 1988-89 season.
