Referee Andre Marriner’s decision has been overruled leaving Elneny free for selection after it was feared he would miss out on league matches at Newcastle, against West Ham in North London and Old Trafford against Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United.

The red card came after Saints defender Jack Stephens tussled with Jack Wilshere before hurling him to the ground, which saw Marriner hand out straight red with Wilshere given a caution.

Moments later, as Mark Hughes Southampton were preparing to take a free-kick, Elneny was seen shoving at Cedric and was also shown a straight red.

However, in a statement this afternoon, the FA said: ““Mohamed Elneny will be available for Arsenal’s next three games after an Independent Regulatory Commission accepted that he was wrongly dismissed for violent conduct against Southampton on Sunday, April 8, 2018.”

Arsenal travel to Moscow on Wednesday leading 4-1 from the first leg of the Europa League quarter final tie.
