A lorry-obsessed four-year-old who recently survived a major operation was treated to his dream day-out on Friday – a trip to the Eddie Stobart site.
Kian Murphy has been “obsessed” by all things Eddie Stobart for the last 18 months, his mum, Grace, told the Post. “We live just off the M20 motorway so every day he was seeing these lorries, and now he’s obsessed by them,” she explained.
His interest was kindled when his great-grandmother bought him a toy Eddie Stobart lorry. His collection has since burgeoned and now includes some collector’s items.
Kian, who lives with his family in Borough Green, Kent, was hospitalised with appendicitis in January, and his grandmother decided that once he was out, she would treat him to a trip to the Eddie Stobart site on Choats Road in Dagenham. An employee of the haulage firm was tracked down through friends of friends on Facebook, and the trip was sorted out – without Kian’s knowledge, until he and his mum pulled up at the site.
The young lorry-fan had the time of his life taking pictures next to vehicles, meeting drivers and managers and even getting to drive a forklift truck around a warehouse – sitting on the lap of a driver. “He’s normally really excitable and goes at 100 miles an hour,” Grace said. “But he calmed down and got quite shy when he realised all the attention was him.”
She added that when he grows up, Kian doesn’t aspire to be a plumber like his dad – instead, he wants to be a driver for Eddie Stobart.
