Dubbed “horticultural hipsterville”, GROW London is back on Hampstead Heath with a brand new interiors offering. We preview the best of the new GROW Living display.
Your go-to annual garden and lifestyle fair is back and this year it’s bigger and better than ever. GROW London will be setting up its green camp on the Heath from June 24 to 26, with over 100 exhibitors showcasing the best of contemporary gardening. This year GROW Living joins the line up, showcasing the very best of design-led botanical-inspired interiors and featuring talks and workshops from experts. With so much to see and do, we’ve put together our edit of the seven stylish stalls and makers you should look out for at this year’s event.
Eric Trine
Get an exclusive preview of LA-based designer Eric Trine’s brand new collection. The brand’s aesthetic is inspired by the question ‘what if Charles Eames, Buckminster Fuller, and David Hockney were surfing buddies?’ and features plenty of sunshine state colours and contemporary shapes.
Trine’s work blurs the line between form and function, with sculptural chairs, tables and vases realised in a mix of bright hues, metallics and fun fabrics. Trine will be on hand to give a talk on how plants, colour and California have inspired his whimsical and modish designs.
Tibeb Artisans co
A collective of community-based artisans in East Africa, Tibeb Artisans collaborate with UK designers to create products that elegantly combine traditional craftsmanship with innovative design. Their baskets are woven from fine hand-spun sisal by master weavers. A seven inch basket takes as long as 30 hours to weave and the raw materials are all prepared without chemicals and using natural dyes. All products are made from sustainable materials and are ethically produced, so you can shop guilt free.
If you want to try your hand at DIY macramé, the artist Helen Robinson will be running a two hour workshop for beginners.
Susan Castillo
Glasgow-based artist Susan Castillo blends her bold botanical photography with textiles to create fabrics that elevate the ordinary and occupy the space between art and design.
Her painterly photographs explore the interplay of light and dark on leaves, fronds and petals to create a dramatic chiaroscuro effect, realised in a fresh palette of evergreen and peach. The designs are all digitally printed on to fine Fife linen in the designer’s native Scotland.
Such & Such
Online design store Such & Such brings together a carefully curated selection of original lifestyle and homeware products.
The brainchild of brother and sister duo Ali and Nikki, the website brings together great designers producing unique handmade items and the stories behind them. Highlights include haptic kitchenware such as tactile hand carved wooden spoons and smooth ceramic cafetières, pitchers and growlers.
Nook
North London based homewares and lifestyle store Nook will be showcasing a selection of plant related design items. Owners Gemma, Jack and Kate pooled their years or retail experience to open their Stoke Newington store in 2012, bringing together a hand picked selection of items that are built to last but don’t take themselves too seriously. Each piece has to pass the highest taste test; the trio only stock items they would display in their own homes.
Brands chosen by the store include British brand HAWS and Danish design houses FERM LIVING and HAY.
Monti
Inspired by her passion for nature and geometry, Dee Monti founded her brand MONTI in 2014. Her designs are all underpinned by her belief that quality designs improve quality of life and her ethos for appreciating the simple things.
Each design is designed, handmade, photographed and packaged by Monti in her London studio, using locally source materials. The designer will be displaying products from her Primary Collection rage, along with handmade glass terrariums, planters, and vases.
Eastern Biological
Dubbing itself London’s first independent natural history concept lifestyle store, Eastern Biological stocks a range of gifts and objects.
Their space at GROW is set to be an exotic extravaganza around the theme of ‘Galapagos’.
Inspired by Charles Darwin’s studies and journies, the team have become so obsessed with the islands during their research they’ve even become a monthly donor to the Galapagos Conservation fund. They hope their unique space will communicate the scientific significance behind botanical items that are much more than a lifestyle trend, but their cactus trinkets and unusual succulents in science equipment containers will also look lovely on your shelf.
Essence + Alchemy
These small batch botanical candles may have an alchemical quality but the maths is easy. Simple, beautiful and natural ingredients come together in these 100 per cent plant based candles, handmade in England.
Founder and maker Lesley A Bramwell is an environmental scientist, whose initials rather fittingly spell out LAB. She creates all her eco-friendly fragrances in her laboratory where she conducts fragrant experiments with natural scents.
The packaging reflects Lesley’s love of science, with hand-blown beakers, specimen jars and amber glass reminiscent of vintage laboratory ware.
