Ecora is an England’s Lane eco-flooring specialist with a showroom stuffed with ethical homewares and handmade pieces from independent suppliers says co-director Jeandré du Toit.

Background

Founded by property developer Daniel Bloom in 2008 as an ethical flooring brand in Belsize Park, Ecora has since expanded its remit to include home accessories and eco-friendly paints under the watchful eye of his interior design-trained co-director Jeandré du Toit.

USP

Ecora works with three mills in Europe to develop their floors, which come from sustainable forests, and they can develop bespoke options for clients with their suppliers. Light floors in shades of white or grey are particularly popular, says du Toit, as are patterned floors and parquet. Bold, contemporary schemes are best complemented by block colours such as solid white, while family homes are suited to a more rustic finish to hide a multitude of sins. They also have a team of specialist installers who will fit their unique floors perfectly.

What’s the look?

“The Ecora product is not 100 per cent perfect but is very natural”, says du Toit. Think grained wood, unpolished marble and hand thrown ceramics in fashionable muted tones sourced from independent suppliers, including Noa Weintraub, a Belsize Park potter and Danish brand House Doctor. This autumn they’re introducing a palette of pale pink and navy blue, with burnt orange accents.

Best for

Wood flooring, obviously, but their linens and blankets are also very popular. Locals often pop in to pick up gifts too, in the form of serving bowls and tea light holders. We love the patterned cushions, ceramic vases and the chopping boards made from London plane trees that have naturally fallen down.

Who shops there?

Everyone from Sadie Frost and the editor of Elle Decoration to a locally based Premier League footballer have called on the brand’s interiors service, while Helena Bonham Carter pops in regularly for homewares and gifts. Otherwise clients are predominantly style conscious Belsize Park young professionals and trendy families.
