Stunning spiral staircases, a perfect family rental, and an update on the popstar who might not be planning to stay in Hampstead after all.

On the move

Can we Belieb it? The internet fan machine sprung into overdrive the other week with the news that Justin Bieber had relocated to north London.

The pop star heartthrob rented a £108,000 a month mansion in Hampstead, complete with indoor and outdoor pools, a solid marble bathtub and a panic room.

However we may have claimed the Canadian singer as one of our own too soon.

As Bieber makes his way round the UK on his Purpose tour news emerged he’s also rented a mega pad in the north of England to hole up in whilst he plays gigs in Manchester and Sheffield. The £4.75million property includes a helipad and a zip wire.

The Beibs also professed a latent love for Scotland. “I’ve visited Glasgow, Scotland a few times over the years and the people there have always seemed like the most genuine and sincere people,” he reportedly told an American news site.

The estate agencies who are involved in letting the north London home are being understandably vague about just how long the star has rented the place for, with one saying that it’s now available to let again.

All this leads us to believe that Justin may not stay as true to Hampstead as we hoped. Much like his once beloved monkey companion OG Mally, we may soon find ourselves left behind when he jets off on his next tour.

If you’re a fan of Fibonacci you’ll want to see this house of spiral staircases. Miafield House is a modern terraced house in the heart of Hampstead that’s been recently refurbished to the high specification finish one would expect of a property in this price bracket, however the real selling point is the centrepiece staircase that rises through the property through a curved glass atrium connecting the sleeping arrangements on the ground floor with the expansive open plan living area on the first. An exterior spiral staircase links two private terraces, the first accessible through sliding doors in the reception room and the second a decked roof terrace. The graceful curves are echoed in the high arced windows that fill the upper floor with light. If that’s not enough to get your head spinning then the location wedged firmly between the Heath and Hampstead High Street will surely have you circling for a deal.

With the lilacs draped charmingly over the porch roof and gabled roof over the red brick bay windows this six bedroom home on Dukes Avenue is picturesquely charming. The interiors certainly need bringing up to speed but there are no nasty surprises here and it offers that which is so desirable in the renovation hunters eyes – the chance to make ones own mark on a property.

The canvas is primed and ready, with three large, square reception rooms on the ground floor giving plenty of opportunity for a reshuffle. The kitchen is currently an awkward addendum to the dining room, so if you’re someone who loves to hold forth from the kitchen island as you whip together an Ottolenghi recipe or three you might considering moving it to a more prominent position.

The master bathroom also has a curious configurement with its freestanding yet built in bathtub, but swap it for a claw footed roll top and you’ll be channelling boutique hotel vibes in no time.

The rooms to the rear of the property look out over 90 ft of green lawn, so there’s plenty of space for your family as well as your interior design skills to run wild.

Let the morning light in with this little flat on Finchley Road. The one bedroom apartment sits at the rear of a period conversion in West Hampstead and its east facing open plan living area will make the most of the early light as the darker evenings draw even further in. There’s also a sizeable terrace overlooking some scenic mature gardens that will be perfect for breakfasting al fresco when the warmer months finally return.

Inside the space is well laid out for the sort of compact living that a first home in north London requires. With a little careful furnishing the current occupants have managed to fit a kitchen, dining table, sofa area and a study into the wooden floored reception room and the integrated kitchen has a modish high gloss finish.

The double bedroom also faces east and has a large dormer window, a plus if you struggle to get out of bed early without the aid of natural light.

Rental

Oakfield Road, Stroud Green, N4, £794 pw

This week’s rental would definitely be suited to a larger family, particularly one with older children who want more of their own space. There are four sizeable double bedrooms, a kitchen / diner with plenty of room for family meals and a separate living room with views over the garden. There’s a utility room with a washing machine and a separate shower room to the family bathroom and even a spare sink on the landing so you won’t need to worry about queues for the bathroom during the school run morning rush hour. It’s also in the catchment area for St Aiden’s primary school, which was rated Good in its latest Ofsted report.

The property comes furnished with the basics such as bed frames and sofas, but you’ll want to flesh it out with some pieces of your own. There’s space to bring your own personality to the property and the period features are particularly lovely, with grey marble fireplaces, gently arched windows and wooden floorboards in the bedrooms.
