Like art, interior design speaks to each of us differently. But regardless of individual preferences, it should have heaps of personality. Stepping outside of your comfort zone by mixing paints, textures and fabrics in unique ways can really help to set a property apart.

This is what Carly Madhvani and the NW3 Interiors team have acheived in transforming a 1960’s mews property just off Kentish Town Road in Camden. Starting in March, and finishing in June, the project was completed in just four months.

Arranged over two levels, with a large open-plan reception/kitchen on the first floor enjoying excellent levels of light from the large south-west facing windows, the property also boasts a versatile mezzanine area, two further bedrooms and two bathrooms occupying the ground floor.

Carly’s key role was to redesign the bathrooms to better suit the size requirements of the client, which required the moving of a wall. But the real challenge was balancing the need to create a warm and inviting home, whilst maximising the potential space, as well as adding luxury and ambience to the overall feel.

“It was important for me to ensure there was softness with the bathrooms because of all the hard finishes in there, such as brass, the marble and the glass. In a small space these materials can sound dull and tinny, so I was really keen on insisting they had certain towels, purely for the sound and to get those soft pieces in there among everything else,” says Carly.

Outside of the bathrooms, the house was crying out for striking and unique pieces of furniture and design, to ensure the couple’s house would be a forever home.

By incorporating a colour scheme and furniture collection that reflects the iconic 60’s theme of the property and key changes to lighting, NW3 Interiors were on hand to transform the property into a dream renovation, with some of the materials used coming from local suppliers.

“I sourced the marble from Italy, the tiles locally in Hampstead and the wood that was for the walls was also bought locally,” says Carly.

Achieved to a high finish, in the set time frame and within budget, the entire process was mostly stress free as Carly says “there wasn’t too much of a challenge, to be honest the whole thing went smoothly. I’ve used this supplier before and the builders are absolutely brilliant and do exactly what I instruct. It was completed on time and just about on budget, with about 20p leftover. So it all worked really well.”

Michael Dawson, Carly’s client was also pleased with the final result of his Camden Mews home.

“Amazing attention to detail was brought to the process in re-designing our bathrooms and selecting key pieces of furniture from some high quality, luxury brands (Knoll, Bert Frank, Vitra etc). Working with Carly saved us a considerable amount of time, as she knew what we were looking for and generally her first option presented to us was spot on, making the process even smoother,” he says.

NW3 Interiors next Open House Showroom event is to be held between 10-12 October in the Hampstead Showroom, offering an overview of interior design services and an in-sight to how Carly converted her own home.
