Thirteen one-bedroom ‘compact’ flats, only available to first time buyers living in Camden, go on the market tomorrow.

The apartments, by developers Pocket Living, will form part of a three storey development in Oak Grove, Cricklewood and cost around £265,000.

Pocket Living builds 38sq m flats, often referred to as compact or micro homes, for first-time buyers in London living or working in the same borough as the development, with a household income of below £71,000.

All its homes are sold at 20 per cent less than their market value.

The Cricklewood flats, due to be completed in the autumn, feature floor-to-ceiling windows, underfloor heating, gloss white kitchen units and hardwood oak floors.

The building, which has its own courtyard, is around 350 metres from Cricklewood station (Thameslink), and a 15 minute walk (about 1km) from both Willesden Green and Kilburn tube stations (Jubilee Line).

Marc Vlessing, CEO of Pocket, said affordable housing was sorely needed in Camden.

“Camden already has a thriving community economy but rising house prices are pushing out the city makers who make the borough tick.”

Mr Vlessing said the company, which has developments in six London boroughs, will significantly scale up its operations across the capital.

“London is totally unique in its demand for affordable housing,” he added “In order to sustain the city’s energy, we must ensure that there is enough suitable housing available for the people who drive it.”

Pocket Living has received praise and award for its developments, though some critics say the flats are still too expensive for many first time buyers.
