An exhibition celebrating Camden’s connections to the women’s suffrage movement opened last night at Holborn Local Studies and Archive Centre in Theobalds Road.
It will feature never before seen artefacts from the borough’s feminist history.
There will also be records on show exposing the suffering of many activists who were imprisoned and force-fed, and a wide selection of feminist art.
A Stone’s Throw from Westminster: Suffragettes and Other Feminists in Camden launched with an event featuring feminist comedian Kate Smurfwaite and a performance by punk musician Dolly Daggerz.
Co-curator Dr Susan Croft told the Ham&High: “It’s a very exciting exhibition as it features a whole array of materials from suffragettes and suffragists in Camden, including an original letter from Millicent Fawcett on The Married Women’s Property Act. “The exhibition is brought right up to date with a dazzling array of banners from last weekend’s celebration of the 100th anniversary of votes for women, too.”
