The Heritage Fair arrived in West Hampstead with a large cake to celebrate a community centre’s 30 years in operation.

The event at Sidings Community Centre in Brassey Road last Saturday, called All Change at West Hampstead, looked at the past and future of the area, which is earmarked for development.

Camden mayor, Cllr Jonathan Simpson, was among visitors who enjoyed a heritage exhibition with local history marked out and photos of Sidings over the past 30 years.

Young community news hounds, aged between 13 and 16, took video footage of the day and interviewed local politicians, including Hampstead and Kilburn parliamentary hopeful Cllr Tulip Siddiq. The Red & Green Choir sang about poverty, justice and social issues, and youth musicians and dancers also performed. There were also stalls, a soft play area for young children and a mosaic workshop.

Sue Measures, centre manager, said: “It was a fantastic day, everyone enjoyed it, including the volunteers who made it happen. We hope it will become an annual event.”
