Members of a book club donned the suffragette colours of white, purple and green for afternoon tea to celebrate of the centenary of women’s votes.
The the St John’s Wood Library book group, who meet on the first Wednesday of each month, visited the Wallace Restaurant in Manchester Square last week for the celebration, which was toasted with a glass of Champagne.
The get-together had added significance because one member recently discovered, through an old family photo, that her mother had supported the movement from an early age.
A photo of her, aged about 11, shows she and other children standing with a group of older suffragette supporters.
Marches took place across the country on Sunday to mark 100 years since some women won the right to vote. Some 30,000 people joined in processions in London alone.
