Jeans have always been flexible, but artist Ian Berry has pushed the trait to the limit by cutting and pasting a patchwork of denim into scenes of Hampstead.

The Yorkshireman, who moved to Sweden for love after two years in Swiss Cottage, has sought to marry Sweden’s obsession for all things denim with his happy memories of north London.

The 28-year-old, whose house in Skane is filled with pairs of jeans of all shades, has pieced together scenes of Hampstead Tube station, Primrose Hill and Camden Town for an exhibition at the Catto Gallery, Heath Street, Hampstead.

Ian, who trawls vintage shops for his palette of denims, said: “I had a lot of pictures of my time here, but when I came back to England at Christmas I realised how grey it was and how difficult it would be to bring out those shades and colours with denim.”

Ian hopes to return to Camden one day to create more urban scenes about the time he spent in the borough.

His work is on show until the end of the month.
